How To Set Achievable Social Media Goals in 2013

As business owners we like to set goals for the new year to help us achieve success. It’s important to be specific about those goals that you are trying to achieve for each aspect of your business. This includes your social media marketing. Social Media Marketing Do’s and Don’ts

Social Media has changed the way people connect, discover and share information.
It is the technology that connects people– whether it’s to share content or just to simply chat.
Social networks, such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, are the places where these social interactions happen (discovering & sharing).

Social media marketing is the way to use that technology to build relationships, drive repeat business and attract new customers
through friends sharing with friends, and so on.

Simply put, social media marketing is really just word-of-mouth powered by technology.
It’s simply powerful.

There are a few things you want to use social media marketing to do:

Show And Tell

Show your audience who you are and what you can do for them. It’s great for brand awareness!

Sell!

Give customers offers that are so good they’ll share them with their friends. You want to be able to reach not only them but people they know.

Provide Great Service

Go the extra mile. Do a little more than expected. When you’re interacting online with customers, think of ways you can insure that they will want to continue to do business with you. Sometimes all it takes is simple acknowledgement.

Listen.

Pay attention to what your customers are saying about you and to you. It’s instant powerful feedback.

Make it last!

Build deeper relationships so customers will get to know, like, and trust you. People like to do business with people they like.

With that said, here are a few “Do’s and Don’ts!”

1. Do be nice. Social Skills apply in Social Media. Be nice, courteous, friendly and approachable.
2. Do share things of value. What expertise can you offer? Share it!
3. Do be yourself. Authenticity is crucial. Don’t pretend to be who or what you are not. Stand out from the rest by being you.
4. DO interact. The key is to build relationships. You must interact and engage to do that.
5. Don’t ignore people. Respond to comments and questions.
6. Don’t constantly broadcast. Social Media is relationship building. In relationships it’s not all about you, so be GENUINELY interested in other people.
7. Don’t assume you know what people want. Ask questions! You will better be able to serve your market when you know exactly what their needs are.

7 Easy Ways To Increase Page Likes

7-easy-ways-to-increase-page-likesI am often asked by social media newbies and not so newbies if there are some simple techniques to apply when building their Facebook Fan pages. Once you have customized your fan page with your cover photo, tabs, profile picture and customized URL, there are a few simple things you can do to help drive traffic to your fan page.

ADD YOUR FACEBOOK URL TO YOUR EMAIL SIGNATURE

You can set up your default email signature with a link to your facebook page so that your email communications always include an easy invite to those you interact with via email. If you have GMAIL, you can refer to this blog post on just how to do that here.

ADD FAN BOX TO YOUR WEBSITE OR BLOG

Many people stay logged into Facebook, so this is a simple way for visitors to your site to land directly on your Facebook page. It is an easy plugin to add to your site and Facebook gives you the simple instructions with code. Just click here.

LINK TO YOUR PAGE FROM YOUR PERSONAL PROFILE

Your personal profile page is prime opportunity to drive traffic to your page. Link your “employment” to your fan page. I have provided step by step instructions on how to do that here.

STATUS TAG

When sharing valuable content and information on Facebook through status posts or comments, tag your Facebook page so that people are more likely to click it. You can tag both a person or a page by typing the @ sign and then the name of the person or page that you wish to tag. A pop-up box will appear with suggestions as you type.

MARKETING MATERIALS

Make sure you add your customized Facebook URL to your business cards, post cards, flyers or other promotional material or letters.

OTHER SOCIAL NETWORKS

You’ll want to also direct your followers from other social networks to your Facebook fan page. Include a link in the bio of your other networks like Twitter or LinkedIn.

POST RELEVANT INTERESTING CONTENT

If you are posting relevant, interesting content that makes your fans want to like and share, chances are their friends will like it as well. So when these fans like and share your content, their activity will show up in their friend’s newsfeeds. This will expand your “reach” and expose you to more potential fans. So do share great content and do so consistently.
